Question of the Day

QOTD 06 October

Postby Funky Fairy » Oct 6th, '14, 6:52 am

How far away do your close family live to you?
Kids, parents, siblings?

I had my haircut last week and the hairdresser was talking about her family. Her brother lives next door to their Mum and the Mum moans that the daughter lives too far away. She's a 10min drive.
This made me laugh, I consider that to be very close.

I moved away from my Mum's when I was 19.
It's about 60 miles I think and takes an hour, so not too far.
My brother lives with my Mum and my sister is just 10mins drive from my Mums.
So easy to see them all in one go.

Dad moved to the US 20yrs ago. He lives in southern Indiana, so that requires 2 flights and usually door to door takes almost 24hrs.

I have my brother and his family a little more than an hour away. My mother lives about 2 hours away (in the opposite direction) and my Dad lives about 5-6 hours away (in a third direction).

Yes, 10 minutes is very close in my world too! :D :D

I live four hours from my parents, 5 minutes from my in-laws, and I'm across the country from my older sister. She lives in San Diego.

The older I get, the more I want my parents closer. I think in two years, my dad retires, and then they will try to move over this way. I see my sister every once in a while, sometimes when I go to CHA, and she was here for Thanksgiving last year. Other than that, it had been several years.

My brothers live within 30 minutes. My mom about 10 minutes. My Sister in-law is about 30 minutes in another direction. Another sister-in-law is 6 hours away. BIL and his wife are in the Seattle area. My sons are in San Diego - a whole country away. I don't see any of them nearly enough

I have a lot of family close by. My parents live a 5 min car drive and my only sister about 20 mins away. Allof my Aunts/Uncles live in my city, as does my one remaining grandmother. Most live about 20 mins away from us too.

About half of my family is within an hour's drive... most of them are within 15 min. But the other half is all over the place -- Alaska, Florida, Texas, Arizona, and Azerbaijan. Us locals get together fairly frequently which is very nice!

We see our parents maybe once a year & our siblings.... Probably not that often. We are in South Florida. My parents are in Kansas City. My sisters are in KC & Colorado. My inlaws are in Dallas. My sister in law is in Greenville, SC. So we are all over the place. Hazards of military life. Rarely close to family. Not that we don't want to be. We just don't have the choice.

I am thousands of miles away from everyone in my family but only minutes from Bill's 3 and our 6 grandchildren. I love my mom and sisters but my sisters and I are not very close. It makes me sad but I am glad to be so close to my step children and grandchildren!

It's amazing how far some of you are.
Comes with living in a larger country I guess.

Anna, shame everyone is in a different direction.
