Question of the Day

QOTD August 22

What typifies your area of the world in August?

Colorado has sunflowers all along the roads, they are wild and really weeds, but I love them sooooo much. One year I ended up with a wild plant in my backyard and I've never regretted leaving it to go to seed, I have a weedy corner of my yard, but it's so pretty because of the sunflowers!

August is usually hot and muggy with rain off and on but it's usually a great month to get your last of your Great Lakes fix in. The cicadas are singing everywhere. There are still fireflies but they will disappear here soon. Now saying the part about "usually hot and muggy with rain off and on" is not this year. Lots of rain. Humidity has been 100% for weeks now. The heat is really hit or miss (mostly miss) this year. We still haven't hit 90 degrees here in Michigan. Has only happened four times in recorded temp history.

Peaches, blueberries, tomatoes. sweet corn and peppers are coming into season. DROOL

I love fireflies and cicadas! We don't have fireflies here, my kids have never experienced that magic. We do have cicadas, I've seen a couple of dead ones recently on the trail I walk on, but I haven't heard them at all. They aren't as common here as back east.

Right now-crazy hot heat, fireflies, brown eyed Susans lining the country roads. I love watching how the foliage changes throughout the year on the drive down to the cabin!

Let's see, the end of August in the California desert is just really hot...ugh! It's dry, the plants are wilting, the grass is browning, and we are just praying for a rain shower around here. That being said, I am soooo looking forward to fall right about now! ;)

canola fields!
july and august is about the canola fields here...
so prettier...neon yellow fields against intense blue skies or stormy grey ones...so incredible!
then we move into the gorgeous golden coloured wheat fields!

Canola fields are beautiful! My family used to drive across the prairies in August to attend weddings in Winnipeg when I was a kid. I loved looking out at the bright yellow fields of canola (although it wasn't called that then).

Around here it's pale golden grass on the hills and bright blue lakes. And the markets are full of peaches and corn. Yum! My favourite part of summer.

August is usually humid, but the grass is all dead. My garden has lots of pink phlox in it. And we're finally getting good local tomatoes, still eating pretty good corn, and peaches.
