The cooler days, richer foods, hayrides, and cider treats, the changing colors and smoking chimneys, and especially the smell of the fallen trees.
I love that fall starts everything in our family. Of course school starts and even though I have a high school student and a college student, they love going back to school. Oct 14 is my son's birthday, then we have Halloween (we love Halloween), then my daughter's birthday is Nov 16 and then breath once and it is Thanksgiving. We couldn't have more love and fullness than we do in Autumn.

Can't beat a homemade pie.
I love hiking through the mountains on Fall days, smelling the sharp tang of wild cranberries, seeing the wonderful rich reds and golds of leaves, feeling the chill in the air and anticipating a big bowl of steaming soup when I get back
I love fall because of the cooler weather, the hint of chill in the air that is so refreshing after summer heat. It means winding down and slowing down after the bustle of summer days. I love that it means returning to what has become home for us in South Texas and bringing back such lovely memories of family and friends.
My favorite thing about fall is the cooler weather (the colors are awesome, too, though) because it means I can finally bake. Baking in 115 degree summer heat just doesn't happen. This year is particularly exciting because my oldest is finally old enough (just turned 3 last month, he's our little 10/10/10er) to help and be involved with it all.
Hands down would be breaking out the boots. A close second is the first pot of chili.
The change of seasons, family get togethers, the holidays to celebrate and decorate for, and making lasting memories to treasure. All the reasons to document and craft!
