the mystery with the uneven stamping...

Come here to talk about all things scrapbooking!

the mystery with the uneven stamping...

Postby AnnaB » Jul 24th, '12, 3:11 pm

I've been so frustrated yesterday and today, because I was stamping and every other time the image turned out just fine and every other time it was a disaster. I almost ruined a layout that was nearly finished, but managed to save it...

Then I realized what was wrong. The surface of my desk is so uneven! I knew about it before, but I didn't think about it when stamping. I have this IKEA desk that is pretty thick and there's lots of air in the middle. I guess I've been setting eyelets and hammered too much (or something?) :P ...because it's quite dented, mostly at my work area. When I managed to find a flat spot, the stamping turned out perfect!

Ps. I love the August stamps, by the way... :D Ds.

ha...this happened to me too....I just have a 4x4 cardtable that is a hard plastic, BUT when I border punch, it has caused the table to "loosen" up some....so I have to be careful where I stamp at and I always try to keep my Xtacto pink self-healing mat under whatever I am stamping. It's pretty thick, so it give more stability.....

Glad you saved it....I freak that I am going to do that though!

Ha! I can relate to this - my scrap table is old, warped & cracked (like me) so I have to use a different table to do my stamping. I'm happy you were able to save your layout! :)

Anna, I have 2 tables in my room, one is IKEA and one is not. The IKEA one is the one that gives me the best impressions for stamping.

I don't go to IKEA often enough... We have three of them, all about an hour away by car, but we still don't go there often enough. Perhaps a trip to IKEA should be on my list of things I want to do before going back to work. :)

Denise, I love my desk and I guess it's just that I didn't treat it well. :) I think I set large eyelets on fabric on that desk once. I shouldn't have done that. ::)

A trick I learned from my Close to My Heart demonstrator is to make sure you put some of that plastic cushion mat underneath what you want to stamp. It has enough give in it to allow the stamp to seat fully on whatever you are stamping.

This type of plastic cushion wrap comes in lots of packages so you don't have to use theirs exclusively.

Thanks Laura, that's a great idea! I think I have some kind of foam sheet that is supposed to be used when stamping. Hm... I wonder where it is? :)

I always stamp on top of a piece of that cheap craft foam you can pick up in Wally world! Sometimes just stamping on a small stack of copy paper gives it just enough cushioning as well.
