Christmas Gift Ideas

Postby Funky Fairy » Aug 14th, '14, 6:56 am

I've had an idea.
My Mum sends a card for everything.
Bless her, if the kids get an award or do well in something...you name it, a card arrives.

I've decided with all my kit scraps I'm going to make all kinds of cards and give her a big pack of them for Christmas. I think she'd be so pleased.

Do you make many gifts for Christmas and when do you start?

I've made my Mum a minibook already.
I like to try and make things well in advance. I hate that last minute rush and it makes me feel very 'uncreative'.

I don't. I wish I did. I just can't seem to fit it in, so I buy things throughout the year with coupons, on sale, etc.

Great idea for your mum Lisa! I am sure she'll love it! I make gifts on occasion, but I make sure it's for someone who appreciates handmade!

That is a great idea, Lisa!

I don't make any gifts for Christmas, I don't think anyone I give things to wants or would use something I'd make!

I was hoping to make quilts for my girls this year, but I don't think I'll get them done in time. Again. ;)

I started on a recipe book yesterday and I've already made some Christmas cards earlier this year. It's a good time to get busy!

I agree with what's been said here. I only buy for those that appreciate it.
My sister always wants my stuff. Her house looks like a shrine to my creations.
My Mum is the same, she really loves it all.

I like to make little things for close friends. I made tea light holders last year.

That is really sweet and awesome that your mom and sister appreciate your work so much. I totally smiled when I read about your sister's house looking like a shrine to your creations!

It really is Ashley, it's so funny. Both her husband and herself ask for things all the time.

i do!
i love making things for people....not just for christmas either...
we try and gift handmade for everything...
my one daughter makes reversible totes for all her friends for bdays...
i have a huge store of crocheted goods....mostly hats and headbands on hand for the kids to gift for bdays and whatnot.
i am lucky in that most of whom we gift to is appreciative of the handmade gesture and generally gifts similarly as we do. last year my aunt sent a box of home canned jams and spreads she had done over the summer....best gift that year! we also don't gift to everyone under the sun...just those people that are important to us and are a part of our lives.
if we buy a commercially made gift it's usually books or crafting or project styled things.
i stopped worrying whether or not people would appreciate it or not because a gift is just that....a gift and should be appreciated just for the thought and accepted with grace.

this year i am gifting homemade soap, lip balms, and lotion bars and crocheted daisy coasters....and i've already started :)

lisa, i love that you are making handmade cards for your mom....that is beautiful gift with intent!
