but i really would like to get to know everyone on the boards, so would you mind a short introduction? tell me who you are, what you love about scrapping, why you are here.

Hi Emily, I'm Amber, and I've been a member since Sept. 2009. I work part-time, go to school part-time and wife full- time and mother to two daughters full-time. I love to sew, and embroider and of course scrapbook....which I have been doing since 1998. I used to work at my local scrapbook store and teach classes, but it had to shut it's doors because of the hard times and I don't have a store near me anymore, so I spend all my time and money here at CD. ;D

Hi Emily!

I'm Audrey. I've been scrapping for about 7 years or so. I live just outside of Houston with hubby,2 1/2 year old Charlotte, and 11 week old Kyler! We are originally from central New York state and moved here about 4 1/2 years ago. I used to be a high school and college Biology teacher for 9 years until I had my first baby and now I am a SAHM and I LOVE it! :) Now I work part time at my local LSS teaching some layout classes. I'm on a couple design teams which keeps me busy!

When I'm not scrappin' or nursing or chasing Charlotte around I'm....cooking or sleeping or vacuuming...:) When I get ym life back, some things I like to do are play volleyball (that's how hubby and I met...at the YMCA! :) ) and spend a lot of time hiking outdoors and going to see movies! :)

I joined CD a few years ago when I was looking for a kit club. i have been an on and off suscriber for a while. I LOVE the crops...they are so amazing and inspiring! Plus the DT are some of my most fav scrappers!

I have been around hte board a lot, but just haven't participated as much as I used to b/c I have a lot less time now with a 3 month old! :) But here is my blog with my scrappy stuff:

what a great idea Emily.

I am Denise, 44 years old but feel 25 (that was a good year ;) )
I am a bit of a hot mess but not in the drunken Courtney Love type way just frazzled and over whelmed some days.
I have a crazy, beautiful, wonderfully imperfect family. A husband I've been married to for 14 years, 2 teenage boys, 3 grown step children, and 5 grandchildren.
I am messy, organized, friendly, hardworking, love to cook.
I work hard at 2 jobs to keep my family housed and fed.
I am a fancy dress with biker boots.
I love my girlfriends-women are awesome.
I am a progressive Christian who prays a lot and gets angry with God.
I don't know what I am doing most days but I do have lots of opinions-most I keep to myself.
I am no Pollyanna but I really do believe anything is possible.
oh and I swear a lot. I am trying to stop. :P

Emily, you have to do it to. Who are you? :)

Re: who are you?

Postby mlepitts » Oct 7th, '11, 10:20 am

thanks for playing along guys!

amber, i used to be a sewing maniac, then i found scrapbooking and kind of stopped sewing fabric together cold turkey. i've been trying to balance a bit better, i actually made my daughter's prom dress last spring and it was fun (and a little stressful)!Image

audrey, my parents lived in katy for 10 years, they moved there right after i graduated high school in cleveland. have you been to goode company? that place ruined me for good barbeque, nothing else can compare.

denise, i do believe we could find some common ground :)

and you're right, it's only fair that i share a bit about me:

•i'm going to be 40 next month and i'm really happy about that. i had heart failure when i was 28 (cardiomyopathy) and almost didn't make it to see 30.
•i teach piano to a small bunch of students, i'm not a concert pianist, but i am a good teacher.
•i try hard to live my religion.
•i enjoy gardening. until the 95º days in august, then i let my annuals die. i shouldn't but i do every year. it's just too hot.
•i like to interval run/walk around a lake near my home. it's the time i clear my head and discuss things with God. i've lost almost 15 pounds because of it in the last 6 months. which is good since i need to lose about 50 more to be healthy. i lost 50 pounds in the year after my heart failure and then gained back almost 40 of it over the next ten years. i am not obsessed with my weight or size, but i do want to be healthy and the running part seems to help. but i'm not a runner. so i interval :)
•i don't watch TV, sometimes i'll watch a movie or house on DVD. our TV's in the basement. on purpose.
•i love potato chips. i don't buy them anymore.
•i have two teenagers, annie is 17 and ethan is 13. they are the most amazing kids, i stand in awe that they are mine.
•my husband is my best friend. we've been married for 19 years and ronda thinks we are cute. he is a scientist by training, but is now the director of research and development at a small invitro diagnostics company. he loves it. he's also the bishop of our congregation, so he's very busy. we do mini dates whenever we can squeeze in 15 minutes of together time.
•i write for a couple of SBing magazines. it's kind of a dream come true.
•my scraproom is a mess right now. and that stifles my creative spirit way more than i'd like to admit. i really need to get on it.
•i've just successfully memorized a piano piece called solfegietto by CPE bach. it's a huge accomplishment for me because i've never felt like i was a memorizer, i'm a great sight reader. but i make my students memorize two pieces a year, i decided it's fine time i take my own medicine. i'm really proud of that.

how's that? :)

A really good idea this!

- I´m Marie but known as Mison in the scrap world. A name my dear dad gave me as a child.
- I have been scrapbooking since 2004, and have found my way of beeing creative. As I come from a family with strong crafy heritage on the "women" side it´s fun to find something "new". Everyone else has been knitting, sewing, painting etc (well I can do that too....)
- I´m not married, but have a lived with my partner for almost 20 years... My two children Alice and Max looks like me and acts that way too (and yes - being alike is a huge source of conflicts!).
- I work as a intensive care nurse with cardiology as specialty.
- I love books, and wanted to become a librarian when I was younger.
- I a tomboy - I can easily fix the car as well as knit a pair of socks.
- I love all sorts of rock music
- I sing really well, but not in public.
- I have a music ear. I can´t play any instrument for real, but I can make sound on almost everything that actually sounds like a song.
- I sometimes write in english without noticing...
- to explain the above - I live in the norh of Sweden
- I do cook nice food my dad call our house "Restaurant Kungsvagen"
- I love Zinfandel wine
- I have a kit company business on my own, but tend to use CD kits before my own ::)
- I´m a good teacher but have not patience to learn my children things
- I dream of going to CHA some day

Well, that´s me - sort of...

Hi, this is my second month here and I don't know many people either.. I am 65 (so old) and by my siggy line you can tell I keep busy. I have only been scrapping 8 years so I have lots to catch up on, plus the boys keep me well stocked in photos, I love them and they are alot of my subjects. Other then that I love to do nature and unusual layouts.

The most important thing I have learned is always carry a camera, you never know what you might miss.
Jeanne,

Grandma to 2 autistic boys almost 9 & 7, I care for 60 hours a week and would not miss a minute!

Re: who are you?

Postby Olivia » Oct 7th, '11, 7:39 pm

I'm Olivia.
-I am 35 years old
-I live in Central Arkansas about 45 miles south of Little Rock.
-I was an elementary teacher for 12 years then I finished my masters last fall in Library Media and got a Media Specialist job this year in our school district at the 5th and 6th grade building...LOVE IT!
- I am married to Jess, a high school girl's basketball coach, so therefore I now have 20 girls that are an extended part of our family...love that!!! and spend a HUGE amount of time in the gym. We are also big supporters of our districts other athletic teams, so we also spend a HUGE amount of time at the football field and baseball diamond. Suprisingly enough most of my friends are coaches wives or other teachers I work with.
- We have to little boys Carter, 8 and Ethan, 5. They have very different personalities and therefore get along great, most days. They are both very involved in sports, suprise, surprise and love school, riding bikes, playing outside, and playing Wii. Carter is very type A, competitive, and head strong. He wants to make all the decisions right now and to make plans for the whole family... This doesn't work out well for him most days. He is a great kid, but difficult to raise with that huge independent streak (his personality is very much like mine...we butt heads often). Ethan has Jess' personality, very laid back and easy going. He is much easier to raise :), most days.
- I have been at Cocoa Daisy since the beginning and have owned every kit to date. Many of them are still in bags in my scrap room. LOVE IT HERE!!!
- I love being a part of my local Methodist church, many of my very best friends are members are there as well.
-I love modern Christian music (KLOVE is my favorite station) classic country, classic rock, and some new pop.
- I suffer from migraines, they suck...alot!
- Besides scrapbooking, I sew Halloween costumes, cross stitch, love to read, and spend way to much time on the internet, rather than exercising.
-My best friend lives two hours away and is a scrapper too. Wish we could spend more time together.
-The rest of my family lives in the same town as my best friend, I wish I could spend more time with them too.
-People call me funny, I guess I am. My guys are too. We usually have others laughing when we altogether. I find the humorous in this crazy everyday life....
- I love Chai Tea Latte's from Starbucks and bookstores full of books.
- I am new to Twitter and I love it....Getting into Pinterest too.... because I need more vices to keep me seated at the computer rather than exercising. I could pinterest and exercise at the same time, but I struggle to walk and chew gum...It's just a bad idea.

You are funny Olivia!!

Marie, we need to visit and cook some food while we drink wine!

Audrey I remember those blurry, busy small children days very well and it's amazing you can get anything actually finished isn't it? :)

Amber do you miss teaching? I really do. It's one of my goals for 2012.

Emily I am so glad you did this and loved reading more about you. My mother went to Juilliard and was a pianist until getting pregnant with my sister. I grew up listening to her play the piano like a mad women at night while we were sleeping. It was beautiful and heart breaking at the same time.
Amazing that you memorized that piece. Do your children play? My sisters and I all took piano lessons at my mother's insistence but lets be honest, who wants to play the Pumpkin Song when your mom can belt out Bach. I of course regret not continuing now. My son's are both musical. A drummer and a sax player.

Your kids are lovely and look a lot like you!

Good question. Not 100% sure these days. Life is full of changes this year.

I. am. Canadian - but NEVER, EVER drink the beer that uses that line in its ads ;D
I'm 44, married to my best friend Don for 9 years
I am a SAHM to three boys - Eric 8, Graham 6 (almost 7), and Colin 4
I'm still figuring out what I want to be when I grow up.
I grew up in Vancouver, BC, but moved to the Okanagan near Kelowna right after getting married. I love it here - the only thing I miss from Vancouver are the ocean and the restaurants.
My DH is from Nova Scotia, so we visit there as often as possible.
I was swept off my feet by photography when I borrowed my brother's camera when I was 13. I did concert photography for a student radio magazine when I was at university. I still have a deep passion for it, but it doesn't always show in my photos. :-\
I have been mostly AWOL from Cocoa Daisy since the spring. My mom was in hospital most of the summer and just when she was getting better and went home, she had a stroke and died last month.

Re: who are you?

Postby dancingarden » Oct 11th, '11, 10:26 am

I enjoyed reading all these posts! So I will join in.

I am Michele, 45 years old, living in eastern Iowa.
I work for the local LSS part time, and am one of their primary designers/instructors. A year ago I quit a full-time job I hated to be a SAHM and work part time at the LSS. I am so glad I did!

My son Kevin is 5 years old, I am a late-blooming mama. ;) but he is worth waiting for.

I started scrapbooking in Sept 2008, and really took to it! Actually, obsession is the appropriate term. It wasn't long before my sewing room was turned into a scrap room.

I don't submit very often but I have been published, in a few online zines and once in the Northridge Cricut Magazine, and in another smaller magazine.

I used to teach bellydance, I had 3 performing troupes and taught 4 days a week. I retired from that and turned over the teaching to my senior students after my kid was a year old... it was too hard for me to work full time back then, plus all the hours I put in teaching dance and setting up and directing performances. But I missed the community of women I'd built. I still hang out with them of course but I also have the scrapbooking community here too.

I also like reading, gardening, movies, crafts of all sorts, sewing, junking and some other things.

:)

Postby mlepitts » Oct 11th, '11, 11:37 am

thank you everyone who has commented, what a lovely and diverse group of ladies we have here at cocoa daisy, i'm really excited to get to know you all better! lots of seamstresses here, maybe you'll help me get back into the fabric sewing and quilting, i do miss it.

michelle, i love that you are a bellydancer! when we were in switzerland last summer we happened upon a class of women learning, it was fascinating to watch. i tried to take pictures but the frau teaching it came over and scolded me. i understand her point, but the colors and movement were so lovely, i do wish she hadn't made me erase the pictures :)

lydia, my sympathies on your mom's passing, it's got to be hard. we used to live in seattle and before we left took the ferry up to victoria and vancouver for a weekend. gorgeous part of the world, i could camp out in the gardens there and be very happy.

denise, everyone in my family plays. i'm probably bottom of the pile talent wise, but that makes me work at it and so i can get by. my husband played from age 4 until he was in college, then decided a concert pianist's life wasn't suited to family life so he switched majors. he'll just sit at the piano a compose at night, it's rather romantic :) my daughter has excelled and is very talented. she loves to play. my son, he's got the perfect touch and could be amazing, but he's lazy and doesn't love it. it's more forced by mom, but i'm hoping someday he'll decide it's a good thing. my daughter keeps telling him the piano is a chick magnet, he needs to keep up with his studies. he's 13 and slightly cares about the girls. not enough yet :) and my mom's pretty amazing too, i understand the bach/pumpkin song comparison. :) and i don't teach my own kids. tried that, didn't work.

olivia, i've had fun chatting back and forth with you on twitter, i would agree that you are funny. i think it's great that you are so involved with the sports programs for your school, with all the budget cuts, they need all the outside support they can get.

jeanne, i'm so glad i'm not the only newbie :) i need to tell you right now, you will never catch up, so stop trying! just have fun with the process and get the really important stories told. (i need to take my own advice!) i love your advice to always have a camera with you, i need to listen to you. i only have my big clunky DSLR and so i don't always have it with me. i know i've missed out. thanks for the reminder.

and marie, you're probably very familiar w/ my heart condition! i'm jealous that you have a musical ear, that means you probably "play by ear" in piano teacher language. when i teach my kids i always have them sight read through the new piece before i help them, you never know when one of them can play by ear and fool me into thinking they've mastered the song.

Re: who are you?

Postby alizadeutsch » Oct 11th, '11, 7:59 pm

I've loved reading everyone's posts, so I'll join in as well. I hope I'm not too late.

I am 36 years old, and I live in New York City. Even after 18 years, I still think it sound so cool to say that. I love city life--I don't have car, I can ride my bike to work, we walk a lot. But, I do miss nature. Whenever I do get to leave the city and see some of the natural world, I tend to scrap about it immediately.

I have been married for 15 years, and have 2 boys who are 13 and 9. I should be used to it by now that my kid's are so big, but I still find it surprising. (And, I always love when people say, "You don't look like you could have kids that old." So, I suppose that means that I am vain too.) My boys are funny and creative, though one is proud to call himself a pessimist-which can be tiring to live with at times. My older son loves to read, and my younger son can barely get through a book, but he is always playing imaginative games, or outside exploring, so I feel like he is still using his brain and learning about the world.

I teach preschool, though I left for a few years and worked as a construction worker until I was laid off. In some long, roundabout way, I feel like working in construction is related to scrapbooking...working with my hands, making things. And in both preschool and construction, I often leave work with paint all over my hands and clothes.

I am back at teaching for my second year in a row, and it feels good to be back after my career break. I am teaching 2-3 year olds, and I really enjoy working with this age group.

I am an Orthodox Jew, which makes this a very busy time of year. Tomorrow is the start of a 7 day holiday, and there is a lot of work to be done around here! Luckily my husband does most of the major cooking, which is a big help.

I think that's all for now. Thanks Emily!

Emily, I was reading your post and I thought so many times, yes, I know that or yes, I feel that way too. you may not remember me but I have visited your blog. I have two boys as well. I am not Jewish but my faith is very important to me also and coming from the north east coast, and living in Atlantic Beach as a child I have many Jewish friends who I have shared wonderful spiritual conversations with that I will cherish always. I was also a preschool and kindergarten art teacher and in a life long ago a carpenter's laborer-among many other things. so glad to see you here. welcome. :)

Re: who are you?

Postby Sharmaine » Oct 13th, '11, 3:33 am

ok, i'm back, as promised
Still tired but have coffee :)
I'm Sharmaine (4squirts in some circles)
Married to my bestie, Davie Babes (also known as Dave). He is an electircal power engineer with one our state's power distribution companies. We've been married almost 14 years, going out 15 (yep we celebrate that anniversary too!)
We have 4 girls aged 12,10,8 and6 who fill my day, even when they aren't here!
I am blessed to be able to stay and home, I think a job would send me over the edge as life is busy enough!
Most Fridays I work in our school canteen, helping the boss lady with the lunch orders
We live in Tasmania, Australia and it truly is a wonderful part of the world.
I started scrapping in 2005 and it has changed my perspective on so many things. I love to capture the day to day
I'm turning 40 in December and Davie Babes is having a almost 40 till 40 bbq for me next month. He was hoping to have it 40 days before my birthday but the calendar was already booked out with an end of year event, so it's on the 6th of November and you are all invited :) I do wish the world was smaller so you could all come :)
I'm 5.5 years older than Dave so I have plenty of time to get some ideas ticking for his 40th lol
I've 'known' about Cocoa Daisy since it started, lurked, joined, watched in awe, jumped in, lurked some more before getting a dt spot (still happily pinching myself).
I love music (my blog is testament to that because my playlist is long!) but don't often get to listen to it so I usually enjoy the quiet when the kids aren't home. I love to read but haven't read a whole book in... can't tell you when! I have piles of books that I want to read but just can't stop and focus, sad sad sad. Just glad our girls love to read.
I am passionate about family, a loyal friend and really do think that everyone should scrapbook because we all have a story to tell.

I keep happily reading and enjoying this thread (so cool to find out a bit more about you all), and meaning to join in, and something keeps getting in the way! ::) But the washing is on, the guinea pigs have been cleaned out, I have a coffee, and a bit of time :):

* I'm Nicky, and I live just outside the city of Norwich in the UK, in a pretty village in the countryside. Best of both worlds, with a country walk to school, but the city and shopping 10 mins drive away.
* I'm 39, less than half a year til the Big Four Oh. It doesn't bother me, I'm just looking forward to the party ;D.
* I'm married to Paul, my best friend and comedy partner (we laugh A LOT), he is very into cycling, but more importantly he's hugely into photography, he does weddings and family portrait sessions. And I have a never-ending supply of amazing photos to scrap! It's a good partnership ;)
* I have 2 boys, Sam is 9 and Max is 6, and I'm proud to say they are very good boys, they give me no bother whatsoever (ok, that's a small lie, I'll rejoice the day Max gets the hang of getting to the loo on time *sigh*). People often say "two boys, you must have your hands full", but that is far from the truth.
* I built a career in people management in IT before having children, then was a SAHM mum for 7 years, which I absolutely loved. Two years ago I decided to train in preschool childcare, and now work at the village playgroup part-time, and really enjoy it.
* I started papercrafting when I decided to make my wedding stationery in 2000, and became hooked! I made cards for a long time, then became aware of scrapbooking and decided to give it a try, in 2006. The cards were abandoned :D. I still make a few, but only for family and special friends.
* My first Cocoa Daisy kit was Nov 2007, can't believe I've been getting them that long! I joined the forum a few months later, I lurked for ages, but got proper chatty in early 2009, when Laura and I 'came across' from a UK forum, and I introduced Lisa to CD. Aren't you glad I did?!? :)
* As well as crafting, I'm musical, I learnt piano and violin to high grades, but hardly ever touch them now :(. Emily, I'm impressed you've learnt Solfegietto by heart, I'd forgotten about it but I played it years ago. Going to have to search and see if I still have it now :). I sing in the Norwich Philharmonic Choir, there are about 120 members and we make a big noise! I love it.
* Hmmm, what else?
- I love to bake, I love to eat what I bake :-\ .
- I hate exercise, but I need to be careful of eating what I bake, so I bike ;D.
- I rode 77 miles for charity a couple of weeks ago, and worked off 3 cupcakes and 4 cookies :D.
- I love coffee, maybe too much.
- I love reading, I read every night before I go to sleep, it might be 3 paragraphs or 3 chapters or half a book, but it has to be every night.

Oops, that's a bit long, sorry!
