if you had to name a smell...

that always made you nostalgic, what would it be?

For me it would be Lilacs. We had a Lilac bush in our backyard growing up. It was given to my Mom by her father. Many pictures were taken in front of it, and many blooms from it were brought inside. The smell would fill up the room! Even after I moved out, my Mom would cut blooms and share them with me. :)

This is going to sound so bad/odd, but it's the smell when you walk past a pub in the morning.
I love that old beer/pub smell.

My grandparents always had a pub, we stayed over with them lots and as kids we used to love to help my Grandad in the mornings. It was so much fun. We would bottle up, do the beer kegs in the cellar, wash and dry glasses, empty the drip trays and help the cleaner too.
It's one of my fondest childhood memories.
That smell makes me miss my Grandad so much.

Because I can't name or describe the specific dirt that takes me back to childhood, I will say Playdoh.

I wish I knew what my Great Aunt Nancy wore for perfume when I was 3. That is also elusive, but goes along with the Playdoh and green jello. That trifecta is from a single day in New Jersey, visiting Aunt Nancy and Uncle Bat (Batista). <3

Both my Grandmother and my Mom wore Coco Chanel perfume, the original and I loved (and still do) the smell!! My Grandmother was very regal and only wore just a hint of it and instructed my Mom to do the same. ;)
She told my Mom that my Dad would have to get up real close to smell her then :-* HeHe!!

I can recognize the smell immediately when I am near someone who is wearing it! Brings back many fond memories.

The smell of horses and the horse barn. Before we bought my horses I have now It had been years since i had a horse at my house daily. So while I was horseless I would get a wiff every once in awhile that would send me back to the farm or to a rodeo from years gone by and it would make me so happy. I swore for years it was the ghost of Boogies Red Pepper running to me at a time when I needed her since she was my bestest friend growing up, miss her so. My GPA E. always had horses so of course i always think of him when I smell that smell. Its my happy smell.

Old spice men's cologne brings back my dad. No one I know personally wears it, so since he passed, it brings him back to me.

Funny. Lucy asked this morning what Black Ice smelt like. She'd been shopping with Dave recently for a car freshener. We talked about how Black Ice would smell of water but the air freshener probably smelt of perfume.

Moth balls make me thing of Dave's Grandparents.
Porridge makes me think of one of my Grandfathers.
I love the smell of Christmas, that tree smell that arrives even when your tree is artificial....
