New Beginnings With the New Year

Postby SuzMannecke » Dec 27th, '13, 5:25 pm

With Christmas over and the new year next week, does anyone else like to end the year/start the new year by cleaning house and simplifying. I really love the new year and going through the house, organizing, decluttering, and donating items. I think it is a good time of year for me to do this, because Jan and Feb seem to be the least busiest months for my family regarding activities. I also find I read more books then too. Anyone else like the new year for cleaning and organizing? I guess I just like fresh starts. :)

Yes! I started today by putting away all the Christmas decorations. My house feels so clean and uncluttered. I already warned my children that we would be cleaning out closets and drawers in their bedrooms during our holiday break. They have outgrown many things and it's time to purge.

I also love that I usually have more time to scrap during the winter months. :)

yes! I always do a big purge at the end/beginning of the year. Its the perfect time to go through closets/dressers, the Christmas stuff, and the toys while I am trying to find places for all the new stuff we receive over the holidays.

@SherryC-Yay! Go you! (It's weird, but I actually think I scrap more in the summer-maybe because more hours of daylight? IDK. LOL)

@MandyKay It feels good to start out the new year organized. I have really been trying to stick with my rule of for every new item that goes into the house, a minimum of three things go out. I really am trying to do much more than 3 though!

I, too, probably scrap the most in the summer, but this year I've been at a virtual standstill between Aug. and Christmas. I'm planning to spend the winter months scrapping, let's hope that plan works. lol

We clear our decs away after the New Year, so I will start the declutter process then.
It feels so good.

We have been decluttering and purging for a couple of months now- a little at a time. We have been moving rooms around the house, so it was necessary. The master bedroom closest taunts me......... ;)-

We're still in transition mode here...we are working on projects semi-constantly, and I'm trying to be really conscious of what we bring in and what we have. I purged a lot before the move, but I'm continuing to do as much as I can here and there. With Bo, it's hard..he wants to hang on to everything.

I try to use the new year as a way to start fresh, but it's been a really busy December and January isn't slowing down, so we'll see how it goes!

Yes! I did major purging in scrap room. And we went through toys. Unsuccessful in getting rid of a lot but still looks so much better.

I do that through out the year when I can so not exactly a New Year thing.
I have moved so much during my adult life I don't have lots of stuff! You learn to declutter. :)
I do have some home projects I would like to get accomplished. I want to find a thrifted desk for Conner and then we are going to paint his room and hang some new curtains. Just need to get a free weekend.

I'm eager to get some Christmas clutter picked up, but we aren't home from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve, every year, so there isn't much time to get it put away before the new year!

Yes! In definite purge and simplify mode here too! I've been purging the last couple of months but stopped through the holidays.... Love this time of year because hubs takes vacation time and everyone is home with slower schedules. I read a lot around this time of year too Suz! Longer heavier books!

Marti - my master closet taunts me too! lol
