My daughter is going through this phase of sass lately and on this particular day she said some pretty hurtful things to me, which I responded to as if I were 4 as well. So I just held her while she cried her frustrations out and she fell asleep in my arms. We both needed this healing sleep of forgiveness. I decided to document this so she knows that this life of ours I document isn't always about the good pictures of us smiling...it's also about the struggles we go through that produce the most beautiful moments of all.
To start off this layout I added gesso to the area I wanted to concentrate the photo at. I knew I wanted this to be a mostly centralized layout. I built up more interest by adding in Shimmerz Paste-Eez in "Peach Fuzz". Once that was dry I added the Peach Fuzz again over the top of a floral stencil from my stash. For papers I chose softer colors like the one Canoe two Creekside floral pink paper which complement her post tears rosey cheeks. The doily was a perfect reminder of comfort. The mint and Kelly greens found in Paige Evan's Turn the Page collection drew out the green in the blanket wrapped around us. I thought I would bring more patterns often found in cozy blankets as well like the plaid strip behind the photo and the diamonds I fussy cut out of Paige's green and mint geometric printed paper to give sort of an argile feel. I also used the same paper as subtle layering pieces to ground the paper clusters behind the photo and pull in more of that kelly green from the blanket. To finish the layout I added some Embellishments like the "No Drama Llama" which couldn't have been more perfect for this story, as well as stitching in a mint colored thread and white ink splatters.
